Outdoor Emergency Care

Uniforms

Vail Resorts Employees and National Ski Patrol Volunteers have different, very specific, uniform requirements. DO NOT purchase any uniform parts or accessories until you are informed which uniform you will be wearing and have completed the OEC Mid-Term Exam.

Vail Employees: Uniform is provided by Vail Resorts in accordance with the Employee Handbook and training in The Lift.

  • Hard Shell Jacket(Provided by Vail)
  • Soft Shell Jacket (Provided by Vail)
  • Black Pants (Provided by Vail)
  • Resort Hat (Provided by Vail)
  • Vest, Optional (Provided by Vail)
  • Black or White Helmet

Exceptions may be approved by area management

Volunteer Patrollers: The uniform is to be the uniform available for purchase from the National Ski Patrol catalog. 

  • Red Mammut Jacket with White Cross
  • Solid Black Pants
  • Black or White Helmet
  • Optional Mammut Vest or
  • Optional NSP Medical Pack

*Existing Volunteer Uniforms may be worn as long as they remain in good condition. They should be replaced with the current NSP Uniform by Mammut as a replacement is needed.

  • The topmost layer of clothing must be one of the following items:
  • An approved parka, shell, or vest
  • An approved SCSP logo shirt
  • Official NSP shirts or sweaters
  • White or black turtleneck

The following topmost layer of clothing is prohibited:

  • Short sleeved shirt with a long sleeved shirt beneath. (If you are wearing
    a short-sleeved shirt, your forearms should be bare)
  • Turtlenecks other than white or black (unless it has an NSP logo)

 

Uniforms and Parts from other manufacturers should not be purchased and worn at Snow Creek. 

Equipment

All equipment, including snowboards, skis, boots, bindings, boards, helmets, etc., is subject to approval and inspection by Vail Resorts. All equipment is expected to be in good working condition. When applicable, equipment shall not be used once any manufacturer’s replacement dates have been reached. 

All helmets for Employees and Volunteers must be appropriately certified for Ski/Snowboarding, free from damage, and be Black, White, or Grey in color. Recommendation: Look for MIPS Certified Ski/Snowboard helmets

Patrol Vests

Snow Creek Ski Patrollers typically wear either a Vest or an Aid Pack.

Aid Packs

Snow Creek Ski Patrollers who do not wear a Uniform Vest typically wear one of the following aid packs.

The White Cross

Upon successful completion of Outdoor Emergency Care, Ski Patrollers may wear the White Cross. 

Individuals who have not completed Outdoor Emergency Care may not wear the white cross.

Snow Creek Ski Patrol may also have a training vest which may be issued while participating in training activities. Any exceptions must be approved by the Patrol Director and Manager on Duty and conform with Vail Resorts and National Ski Patrol policies.

Excluding the Vail Resorts Employee Uniform, Alpine Patrollers who are certified to pull a toboggan may wear a  cross with the words “National Ski Patrol” embrordered in the center available from the National Ski Patrol. 

Alpine and Senior Emblems

Upon successful completion of Outdoor Emergency Transportation, the appropriate emblem may be worn on the aid pack.
